How do I find a good Christian church?

A good church is one that focuses on Jesus and teaches who he is with depth and clarity. Knowing Jesus and trusting him as your Lord and Saviour is what it means to be a Christian but it is also the purpose and power of the Christian life. By being spiritual united with Jesus, Christians belong to Jesus Christ, are assured of eternal life with him and are changed by him.

Every week at Risen Church we teach from the Bible and show how awesome Jesus is, what it means to know him and live this out.

All this also means that a church that doesn’t teach about Jesus with depth and clarity from the Bible, God’s word, is not going to be a good church. It might be large, exciting or even really engaging. But, if it isn’t taking you deeper into what God says about Jesus and exploring the implications of this, it won’t lead to a deep and strong Christian faith.

What is a Bible-believing church?

A Bible-believing church is one that treats the Bible as God’s word. The Bible is to be listened to and read, understood and lived out.

A Bible-believing church takes seriously the truth that the Bible is God’s word will teach the Bible deeply and carefully. It won’t skim over the Bible. It won’t ignore the Bible. And, it won’t spring board off the Bible to talk about lots of other things.

When Christians say the Bible is God’s word it involves these three ideas. First, that God is the ultimate author of the Bible. He wrote it working through human writers over many years so that the Bible would be available to us. Second, the idea that the Bible is God’s word means that when we listen to and understand the Bible God is speaking to us as a loving Father. Third, it means the Bible tells us the truth about the world, ourselves, the nature of God and Jesus.

At Risen Church, week by week, we teach God’s word as his living word that brings salvation and changes us.
