Our church, Risen Church, is starting a new series on God’s word, the book of 2 Timothy. So, I’ve created a new Creed for our church!
Even to me that sounds dangerous: a new creed. I can see the heading now, ‘Local church in Brisbane falls into tragic heresy through new creed.’ However, the words to this Creed come straight from 2 Timothy.
We long for peace. It seems out of reach. But it is possible.

K-Pop Demon Hunters is absolutely over the top, in the best possible way. The film is funny, delightfully quirky, and bursting with playful animation. The soundtrack is ridiculously catchy and the characters turn out to be more layered than you might expect. But given the themes of witchcraft, demons and idols should Christian parents let their children watch this movie? Many Christian commentators say No. But our guest review Elise Harden shows that great Christian truths shine through in this animated film.
There’s a strong case against organised religion. But two things are worth considering. The Bible, a religious text, teaches that organised religion can go very wrong. And yet, the Bible also teaches that Jesus’ plan was organised religion - the church. For organised religion, like organised crime, does it better.

Is there scientific evidence for a Creator? Joe Rogan digs deep into this question with thinker Stephen C Meyer. The evidence might surprise you.
‘Grim Property Outlook’. So warned the infotainment morning TV show yesterday morning. The property outlook was dark and foreboding. Poverty and austerity were the likely future. It was GRIM.
But when we consider the promises that will be true in Jesus, the property outlook isn’t grim. It is wonderful.

Colossians is a great book of the Bible because it absolutely centred on Jesus. It is a letter to the church in the Ancient city of Colossea. They’d heard the gospel from someone who lived in their city. Paul writes to them to make sure the gospel is absolutely clear in their heads & hearts. He want them to know Jesus and serve him.

Is there a sin that rules out forgiveness? What is the unforgivable sin and the blaspheme of the Holy Spirit? Is there a sin that crosses a sin that can never be uncrossed?
For the Christian, the answer is no. There is no sin that cancels the forgiveness found in Jesus. So what is the unforgivable sin? And what is Jesus warning against?

It is sad to have to write these lines. But if a megachurch pastor Quiboloy from the Phillipines goes to prison that punishment is not enough.

Has Bart Ehrman's teaching unsettled you or influenced you? It shouldn't. Here I share a book that is devastating to Bart Ehrman's scholarship. Not only that, but it will help you see that the Bible teaches Jesus is indeed God, God the Son.
Were the Crusades religiously motivated? John Dickson in his excellent book Bullies and Saints shows they were. But when it came to the First Crusade, was it a Christian Crusade? No, it wasn’t.

Taylor Sheridan of Yellowstone fame is carving up our screens. I recently devoured the blood soaked Western 1883. Here's my reflections on it. This reflection is 100% spoiler because of the story telling arc of 1883 and the message behind it: freedom.
The world seems more dangerous than ever. One thing we can do is pray. This is a short and simple prayer.
There are two different ways of thinking about God (primarily). One of them is 100% wrong. That’s the bad news. But the good news is that the other is 100% correct. Understand these two different ways and you have the key to understanding God, the great news of Jesus and the Bible.
